Why Locals Love Restaurante Ribadavia
Restaurante Ribadavia, nestled in the charming Rua do Franco of Santiago de Compostela, is a refined gem for lovers of Mediterranean cuisine, particularly seafood delicacies. This inviting eatery draws you in with its delectable offerings that celebrate the bounties of the sea, presented with authentic Galician flair and generous portions meant to be shared and savored.
The standout feature on their menu is undoubtedly the Mariscada, served in generous portions for two. The Mariscada numero 2 and numero 3 both offer a sumptuous variety of freshly prepared shellfish and crustaceans: imagine mejillones al vapor (steamed mussels), berberechos al vapor (steamed cockles), succulent gambas a la plancha (grilled prawns), and tender cigalas a la plancha (grilled Norway lobsters). The vieiras gratinadas (gratinated scallops) come highly praised for their sublime texture and rich, buttery finish—Vlad’s glowing review of these perfectly cooked scallops encapsulates the quality and care put into every dish.
For those seeking classic Spanish comfort, the paella here is a must-try. Multiple guests have remarked on its generous serving size and mouthwatering flavors that evoke the vibrant coastal life of the Mediterranean. The freshness of the seafood mingled with aromatic saffron rice creates a symphony of taste that lingers delightfully on the palate.
Dining at Restaurante Ribadavia is as much about the atmosphere as the food. The quaint interior, steeped in old-world charm, and a cozy patio area (often buzzing with lively patrons) provide an inviting backdrop to your meal. While the patio is a coveted spot filled with sunlight and an energetic vibe, the interior's warm tones offer a comfortable refuge for those seeking a quieter, intimate experience.
Accompanying the food is a team of hardworking, courteous staff whose attentive service enhances the overall experience. Their genuine hospitality shines through in thoughtful details—like when a waiter carefully cleaned and wrapped up shells for a guest to take home, underscoring the personal touches that make dining here memorable.
While some visitors have noted minor surprises in menu pricing, the overall consensus points to excellent value for money, reflecting fair and accessible pricing for premium seafood. The restaurant’s convenient all-day service caters beautifully to travelers with varied schedules, making it a reliable choice for both early diners and those seeking a late, satisfying meal.
In all, Restaurante Ribadavia is a culinary haven for anyone craving authentic Mediterranean seafood in Santiago de Compostela. It offers a richly rewarding dining experience that tantalizes the senses with every bite and leaves guests eager to return. Whether you’re an adventurous foodie or simply in search of a hearty, genuine meal, this restaurant captures the essence of its vibrant coastal roots with every dish served.

Friendly staff - the food was good - particularly the scallops were sublime. We wanted to keep some of the shells and the waiter offered to clean and wrap them up for us. Great prices, too.

We've been there to eat Paella. My wife wanted to eat it so badly. We didn't get disappointed. Food was delicious. Also we've chosen this restaurant because it is open and serves food all day long. And since we're from Germany we like to eat earlier.

The waiters are incredibly hardworking, yet still friendly and approachable. The paella we had was delicious, and the peppers and octopus were also excellent.

Nice patio section in the middle of all the business! Unfortunately, it was full so we ate inside. Awesome old world charm! We had the Seafood Paella shared with myself and my mother. It was huge! My mom isn't a big eater but I'm sure it would easily feed 3 people. It was excellent. I would order it again. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a patio seat in the sunshine, but that's not on them. Thanks for a great experience.

The food is great for the price. I took one star off because they play that game you see in other highly touristic areas: they offer something outside that they do not show after you sit down. In our case the day menu was a very good priced one at $13 but once inside they showed us only a menu of $17. However, when asked, all changed to $13. Sleek but at the end just ask and they will grant it. The food was great and the service lace looks good. I recommend. Just don’t be afraid to ask if they do not offer the right price!

Friendly service at the door and all the way. Good paella. Intriguing interior design. Coins left on the way are really raw art. Asked the waiters and they had no clue. Amazing

We have the seafood platter with lobster. It was delicious. Our waiter was very rude. The restaurant was busy. It was expensive but we enjoyed the shell fish
